One Extremely Actionable Saas SEO Tip

After doing some keyword research in the SaaS space - I realized a pattern of how potential customers are searching, doing research, and comparing SaaS Services. It all starts with the funnel below.

For this Saas SEO example I will be looking at multi channel listing software

B2b SaaS SEO Funnel (In Search queries )

Awareness - "multi channel listing software", "how to list products on eBay", "sync products on amazon and eBay", etc.

Research - "listing mirror", "joe lister", "sellbrite" but the searchers will also include comparison type searches like "joe lister alternative", "listing mirror vs joe lister" and so on...This is where my SEO tip comes in to play.

Conversion - After most of the research of the software is done, then comes more comparison..then the conversion. It could be a branded term or an "awareness" search term like "multi channel listing software"

There are tons of searches that are in the research part of the funnel that SaaS companies could be targeting with quality content that is helpful for the user.

Please Note: It is important to make sure your product, software, or service does compare before creating the type of content that is needed to target these search terms. Also, you should provide legit, factual information and it won't hurt to check with your legal team :)

Step 1

Start with keyword or competitive research to find out which other providers are most like yours. Once you have a list of those brands/companies - use a keyword research tool like SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, or Google Keyword Planner and plug in "[brand] + alternative" to get an idea of which competitors to target.

Step 2

Find out how your features and benefits compare with your competitors. This could be price point, support, integrations, and any other things your customer might want to compare.

Step 3

Create easy to read, charts or graphics, that compare you to your competitor. It is important that this is only one competitor at a time. Make sure you add quality content that does a fair job when comparing you and your competitor.

Step 4

After you have created a page for each competitor - write compelling title tag and meta description as seen below:

Step 5

Make sure your new comparison pages are linked somewhere on your site. They can be linked in the main navigation or footer or blog, etc.

Step 6

Search engine optimization takes time - so be patient :) . In time you should get results like this (hopefully).

Step 7 (Bonus Google Adwords Tip)

You can dominate the SERP by also bidding on these "[brand] + alternative" search terms. By having these landing pages your quality score will go up, average cost per click will go down, and your cost per lead will also go down.

TL;DR

Create comparison pages that target "[competitor brand] + alternative" search queries filled with great content that actually compares you and your competitor. Then link them somewhere on your website!
